This is the work I am doing now.
Building historical frames for paintings that have none.
I am learning how to make gesso with rabbit skin glue and
fine chalk. The gesso is applied in several layers,
and then sanded off with finer and finer sand paper.
This process takes hours and hours to do.
days and days.
What I enjoy about it is this very fact.
The fact that I can indulge in a labour intensive
process; one that requires time and patience; and
one that ends with a beautifully
fine-crafted object.
This is the pleasure of a fine craft.
Time. the use of the hands. sitting and breathing and
working layer by layer at something. and returning again the next day.
